Mushrooms play important roles as food, medicine, and are crucial to our natural forest ecosystems. Join us for an introduction to the diversity of the spring Sierra foothill mushrooms from an ecological and cultural perspective. An evening slide show and discussion will prepare you for a field exploration and identification of local mushroom species. Saturday field collecting will include foraging skills development, identification characteristics, and discussion of edible varieties. Please be prepared to walk off trail in the damp woods during this rain or shine event.
